On-device stays on-device
On the free tier, everything happens on your Mac. Audio is captured, transcribed, and cleaned up locally; none of it is sent anywhere. Your models, settings, dictionaries, and history are stored in your user Library on your own machine.
What the cloud engine sends
If you turn on the Cloud (Pro) engine, the audio and text for that dictation are sent to the Murmurtale backend to be transcribed and cleaned, then returned. That is the trade you opt into for cloud quality. The on-device tier remains available anytime you want nothing to leave your Mac.
Telemetry
Murmurtale can send privacy-safe crash and error telemetry to help fix problems. It carries only operational metadata — an error code, the app and build, your OS and device class, and which pipeline stage failed. It never includes your dictated text, audio, prompts, dictionary terms, manuscripts, or account secrets. You can turn it off in Preferences.
